Did you know that Columbus went to Ireland before traveling across the Atlantic Ocean to find "the new world"? Did you know that Columbus' had several Irishmen as members of his crew? Not many do! Before Columbus left on the Santa Maria ship to search for the new world and to convincingly prove that the earth was round, he took a detour to Ireland. For many a week, he, along with Patrick Macguire, studied the records of St. Brendan the Navigator's notes nearly a thousand years before. St. Brendan was a famous sea-going monk who traveled by currach and claimed to find the world beyond across the mighty ocean. When Columbus left on the Santa Maria ship to search for the legendary land, Patrick Macguire was right beside him. When they came upon an exciting new coast of the San Salvador and new world, it was Patrick, himself, who jumped into a small boat and struggled to reach the sandy shore. Patrick Macguire, an Irishman from the ol' country, was the first man to set foot on the "New World"!

Over the next several weeks, I will be publishing, with the aid of my daughter, Bettse Folsom, a series of answer & questions & snippets about Ireland that many people have asked me during events where I have attended. The recordings of these can be found on my YouTube channel, HelenWalshFolsom or if you have a question, please contact me by email and I will be happy to address it.

Thank you for reading my blog!
